About RCA Signal Finder
RCA Signal Finder helps cord-cutters find free over-the-air TV. It lists 6,983 licensed TV transmitters and has a channel guide for 16,926 U.S. cities and towns.
Where the data comes from
Tower locations, power and antenna height come from FCC licence records. Network affiliation and virtual channel numbers are added for the major broadcasters. Signal levels are estimated from power, tower height and distance; terrain and buildings are not modelled.
How the estimates work
For each station we start from its effective radiated power, subtract free-space loss at a mid-UHF frequency, allow 20 dB for buildings and trees, and add a penalty past the transmitter's radio horizon. The result is grouped into Strong, Good, Fair, Weak and Poor. It is a ranking aid, not a measurement: a hill between you and the tower can block a “Strong” signal, and a rooftop antenna on a ridge can beat a “Weak” one.
Who makes it
RCA Signal Finder is built by Asaru Labs Ltd, which also publishes the RCA Signal Finder app for iPhone and Android with a live compass for aiming your antenna.
RCA Signal Finder is independent. It is not affiliated with RCA-branded products, any antenna maker, broadcaster or TV network.
